PEI: An island of immersive experiences & innovative thinkers

The Destination Canada Business Events team had the privilege of being hosted on a FAM tour throughout Prince Edward Island (PEI), located off Canada’s eastern coast, where red sand meets the Atlantic Ocean. At 140-miles long, PEI is Canada’s smallest province—but as we all learned, it’s packed with enriching experiences and expertise across industries like agribusiness and natural resources.

PEI boasts countless unique activities when it comes to rewarding and re-connecting with your team—from enjoying its flavorful culinary attractions, to learning about the province’s history and culture. There are also plenty of world-famous golf courses, stunning oceanside resorts and white sandy beaches that are sure to impress.

Memorable Incentive Experiences

The FAM started on a high with an unforgettable group dinner on the private beach at Crowbush with a sampling of PEI’s freshest from the sea and the land. This exclusive 'Over the Coals & Under the Moon; dining experience concluded with a beach bonfire while sounds of the crackling wood were met with the crashing waves.

This interactive indigenous experience on the shores of Lennox Island had our group preparing bannock with members of the local community. As the bannock cooked under the red-hot embers buried in the sand, we listened to the stories of the area’s rich history, while enjoying freshly harvested shellfish cooked over open flame.

Sector Expertise

We were also privy to unique agribusiness sector tours that showcased how organizations meeting in PEI can connect with local innovators and thought leaders who are shaping the future of how food is produced. Almost 43% of the total land on PEI represents farmland – nearly 600,000 acres. So it’s no wonder PEI is the ideal location for companies engaged in farm-level research and innovation These unique and hands-on experiences provide another level of guest experience when travelling to PEI for an agribusiness conference or convention.

Bryan Maynard, a local PEI potato farmer spoke to the Destination Canada Business Events team about their generational farm, the technology they use and their commitment to environmental growing practices while they grow their potatoes for Cavendish Farms.

Lone Oak Breweryicons.external-link-icon

Located by the Confederation Bridge - the longest bridge to span ice covered waters in the world - this craft brewery focuses on innovation and quality while placing importance on the use of local ingredients. Plus, the beer tastes really good too! Recognizing that agriculture is a significant piece of island life, Lone Oak Brewery works with their famers and producers to represent them as best they can.

A trip to PEI wouldn’t be complete without taking in some of their coastal culture and learning more about their natural resources sector, specific to aquaculture.  We explored the beaches of Brudenell River on tour with Tranquility Cove Adventures and learned about the importance of this starfish hunt to their Captain’s aquaculture experience, who happens to be a third-generation lobsterman.

One of the most memorable moments was the overlap of luxury from the incentive world with the sectors of agribusiness and natural resources, when the team was hosted at the Inn at Bay Fortune for the Fireworks Feasticons.external-link-icon. There, chef Michael Smith provided an on-site farm tour which showcased the first step in his impressive farm-to-table dining experience.

From the moment we arrived, our journey was seamless and the hospitality was second to none. I encourage you to learn more about all that PEI has to offer by connecting with us or visiting our website.
